What is mentoring? Mentoring
is a
relationship based
on mutual trust and respect
between an experienced person and one who wishes to tap into that
experience for self-development.
Why do women need mentors? According
to the Avon Mentoring Matters survey, among women who owned small businesses
and had mentors and coaches an overwhelming 94% say the experience was
“crucial/very helpful” to their
success.
What is the difference between a free mentoring program and
tthe WOWeM
Program™?
Generally
speaking it’s a matter of commitment and intensity of learning and
sharing between the mentor/coach and protégé. When a protégé enlists
the help of a member of the WOWeM
Program™ faculty, the protégé is enlisting a
highly qualified mentor to work through particular challenges, issues and
strategies in an organized, effective manner. Our mentors are more
than coaches, therapists and licensed practitioners, our mentors are
confidants, sounding boards and counselors who provide a safe haven where
you can ask silly questions, make mistakes without feeling judged and
explore difficult situations with total honesty and thoughtful reflection
on the current concerns and challenges.
How do my mentor and I establish the expectations and outcomes of working
together? Before
hiring a mentor
or coach, it is important to interview her and ask the following
questions: How often will we need to meet? Where/how will the meeting take
place? How long will the meetings last?
Will you work with me to create an overall plan to achieve my
goals?
Will this plan be in writing?
How will the WOWeM
Program™ help me in my business? Your
mentor/coach
will have “been there, done that.”
Our program is based upon experience and not theory so while you
may be working with women who are trained educators, they also possess
hands on experience in the categories they represent. And you will be able
to choose the mentor you will work with based upon her own level of
expertise and knowledge.
What are some of the other areas my mentor can help me with? You
will be able to find a mentor (or mentors) that can help you with career
challenges, motivational tips, inspiration, encouragement, help you cope
with change, be a resource for more information and contacts, provide you
with a second opinion about an issue you might be facing, help you
discover your hidden talents, your purpose, how you can improve in
specific areas of your life, cut your learning curve, help you to avoid
common and not so common mistakes, and provide you with an objective
perspective.
I cannot locate the fees to “sign up” with a mentor.
Can you tell me why?
Because Women of
Wisdom® does not set the fees, our faculty does, we do not post these fees
to the site.
