It is too much going on. I mean it. There are too many things fighting for my attention. You would think that spending more time at home would have given me more time to focus and to get things done. But it hasn’t. I get more distracted now than I did when I was having to leave the house for work. Since I am working from home, I have other distractions that take my mind off of the things that I need to be doing.

There are so many things vying for my attention. My computer dings all day notifying me that there is a podcast or Facebook Live going on. With people having to pivot with their businesses and do more things virtually, there is always some type of virtual class or Zoom meeting going on.

It is enough to really overwhelm you. When I get distracted I will start doing something then I look around and see something else that needs to be done. So, I stop what I am doing to do that. By the end of the day I have a bunch of half-finished activities.

I knew I had to do something different when one day I looked around my house and every room had something in it that I had started but not completed and I had booked three meetings for the same day, same time. I knew it was time to get my focus together.  I had to start doing some things differently. Here are a few things that helped me gain my focus back.

Say goodbye to distractions. Silence your phone and close your email and social media pages. Stay from social media except during designated times during the day.

Set a schedule and organize your breaks. When you stop to take a break during the day it recharges your batteries and gives you more energy.  Get up from your desk and move around. Stretch. Take some deep breaths.

Set your daily goals. It’s easier to staye on task when you know why you’re doing what you doing. And it sure feels good when you can cross an item off your list.

Reward yourself. Every time you achieve one of your goals give yourself a reward. It doesn’t have to be anything big.

If you’re having a problem keeping your focus maybe one or all of these might help you get your focus back.
